Ephesians 4:14-15 – That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head even Christ.
As disciples, we must fight against the gamification of ministry; that is, taking extreme joy in winning biblical arguments to the point that we lose sight of the very purpose of those discussions – to enlighten otherwise lost souls. To be certain, if our only purpose in debating someone is to show off our skills, we’ve missed the point altogether. Children enjoy games, they’re very good at them; they rack up high scores and take pride in their achievements. They’re also often over emotional and unable to think rationally. Adults? They strive to lead souls to the Lord. When we speak truth, we must do it in love; otherwise, what’s the point? Humility over everything.
